The Boodles Day 3 - Match summaries, highlights, interviews...

Celebrities and tennis mixed on Thursday at The Boodles as film star Jason Isaacs and reality star Kelly Osbourne joined the tennis elite at Stoke Park.

Alex de Minaur v Alexei Popyrin 63 64

In the battle of the Aussies in the first match of the day Alex de Minaur got the upper hand with a 63 64 win over Alexei Popyrin.  De Minaur, currently ranked No.11 but has been as high as No.6, did not let his longstanding friendship with Popyrin get in the way of his competitive spirit and ensured a straight sets win to go into Wimbledon on a positive note.

Alex de Minaur

“I haven't had as many matches as I would have liked to have so the opportunity to play a competitive match, a competitive spirit, to kind of fine tune and work on a couple things I've been working on, and try to go out there and execute is really useful and now I'll be ready for Wimbledon.”

On feeling at home at Wimbledon due to his relationship with British No.2 Katie Boulter “Over the last couple of years it's definitely felt a little different playing here. It's felt a lot warmer, and the crowd has definitely gotten behind me, and it's amazing to feel that support, and I've enjoyed every second of it, obviously, being with Katie, spending a lot more time in London, and getting to know all the different spots in London, the traditions, the culture, even getting to know the Club (All England Club) itself a lot better. It's been amazing, and it definitely makes me want to play well here even more.”

Sebastian Baez d. Camilo Ugo Carabelli 57 63 10-7

Sebastian Baez found his grass-court feet at The Boodles with a win over compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli 57 63 10-7. The Argentine world No.38, who has a career-high ranking of No.18, had little time to prepare having arrived from Argentina only yesterday, but came back from losing the first set to win in a match tie-break.

Sebastian Baez

I came from Argentina only yesterday so it's a very good preparation to have some matches. I know it's an exhibition, but just to improve and to do some things, new things, just to make stronger for the match in Wimbledon.”

Marcus Willis/David Stevenson d. Rohan Bopanna/Marcelo Arévalo 63 76(3)

In the final match of the day British pairing Marcus Willis and David Stevenson entertained the crowd in the early-evening sunshine with a 63 76(3) win over top doubles pair Marcelo Arevalo and Rohan Bopanna.  Willis and Stevenson, who have both been awarded doubles wild cards at Wimbledon, played some scintillating tennis to delight The Boodles spectators and complete their preparations for the coming fortnight in SW19.

Marcus Willis

“I've had a really good few weeks. I've played Queens and Eastbourne for the first time, you know, as a doubles player. And obviously, get to come here to The Boodles and play here as well. And, you know, I've played some of the best players in the world the last few weeks, and I've really enjoyed it. So, can't get much better preparation than that.”

David Stevenson

“Preparation has gone well. We got to play Queens and then Eastbourne this week, so kind of a few bigger stage events leading into Wimbledon.  It will be the first time I’ve played Wimbledon so I think there'll be a little bit of nerves, but looking forward to getting at it and starting there tomorrow.”
